About the 69th Signal Battalion

The 69th Signal Battalion was constituted on 13 August 1942 at Camp McCain, Mississippi, activated on 15 December 1942 as an affiliate unit sponsored by the Ohio Bell Telephone Company. On 19 July 1944, the battalion landed on Utah Beach, Normandy and joined the newly activated XX Corps of Lieutenant General George S. Patton's Third U.S. Army, serving as the Corps Signal Battalion through the drive across France and into Germany. The battalion's Vietnam-era service continued that tradition of keeping commanders connected and communications flowing under fire — the mission that wins wars before the first shot is fired.
